Karate-Do - Way of the Empty Hand

Renbukai is the traditional style of karate that is practiced by Shin Shi Kan. During the 1930's and 40's accomplished practitioners of many different styles of karate in Japan found themselves in search of a more realistic way of training. These practitioners came together in a fusion of styles and developed what is known today as Renbukai.

Literally translated, Renbukai means “The association to forge the martial way”. Students of Renbukai developed bogu (armour) which is used as a form of protective gear. Bogu allows the students to test themselves and their techniques by training at full power.

Renbukai is among the six major karate styles that form the All Japan Karate Federation (JKF).

Shin Shi Kan strives to provide a fun and safe environment while instilling a solid foundation of basic principles and techniques. To achieve these goals, the curriculum is structured around kihon (basic techniques), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). Group and individual training exercises as well as friendly competition will allow students to develop confidence in themselves that apply in all areas of life.

The club participates in numerous tournaments, and has had much success. Students are encouraged to take part in tournaments. Opportunities exist for competition in local, national and international events.

Karate is an excellent activity for the development of fitness, discipline, and confidence. Above all, karate is an extremely fun and rewarding activity.
